Rice Straw Philippines

   RiceStrawPH Project

A two year project entitled “Development of Sustainable Rice Straw Management Practices and Technologies for Bioenergy, Food, and Feed in the Philippines” or RiceStrawPH Project funded by the Department of Agriculture – Bureau of Agricultural Research (DA-BAR) is being implemented from April 2018 until April 2020.

The project is implemented by three agencies – the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), the Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice), and the Philippine Carabao Center (PCC). The project’s primary goal is to develop sustainable rice straw-based technologies and practices that will increase livelihoods in rice- growing areas and to reduce the environmental footprint of rice production and related sectors.

The six (6) outputs of the project aims to develop sustainable technologies, management practices, and value chain of rice straw in the Philippines with focus on bioenergy, mushroom and ruminant fodder production:

Output 1: Baseline survey and needs assessment analysis

Output 2: Logistics models for mechanized collection

Output 3: Rice straw-based mushroom production: market study and improving the cultivation technology

Output 4: Rice straw- based ruminant fodder

Output 5: Feasibility study of bioenergy from rice straw

Output 6: Value chain analysis and life cycle assessment
